Step into an epic immersive world of timeless mythology and post-war hysteria.

PROMETHEUS STOLE FIRE FROM THE GODS AND GAVE IT TO MAN. FOR THIS HE WAS CHAINED TO A ROCK AND TORTURED FOR ALL ETERNITY.

A world ravaged by a long and costly war. A new age of despair and depravity. A pressing need for a new Prometheus with a more terrible fate in store.

The show

Taking place in the University of Reading's Minghella Studios, We Happy Few will transport you to an immersive world of timeless mythology and post-war hysteria. Featuring multiple fully detailed environments to freely explore as the story unfolds around you, the choice is yours as to how you explore the sights and sounds of a place on the brink of tearing itself apart; follow a character's journey, soak in the details and atmosphere, or commit to finding a lost soul - Your path is yours and yours alone.

Performances will take place across three days only between the 12th and 14th of June 2024.

About me

My name is Noah Cox, I'm the creator of this show which is serving as my dissertation project for my Master's Degree. The show was inspired by the work of immersive theatre company Punchdrunk whose work I first encountered in their London-based show, The Burnt City. Inspired, when it came time to choose a topic for my Masters, I went with this idea of immersive theatre - seeing how the audience could be further engaged, and if a show like this could be produced on a smaller budget while still capturing the grandiosity and atmosphere. Working so far with my fantastic cast and crew has been an absolute blast and I'm keen to keep working hard over these next few months to bring you a show hopefully unlike any you've experience before - but of course I must first ask for your help to get there.

the budget

This project is ambitious in scope and scale and I'm seeking support for several different areas.

  • Set Decoration - We Happy Few takes place across a large area of Minghella Studios, over 600 square metres, so a huge amount of dressing is required to transform all this space into a living, breathing, detail-rich world ready to be completely explored.
  • Costumes - Featuring approximately 20 characters, some of whom must undergo horrific transformations throughout, all must be dressed to inhabit their equally horrifying surroundings.
  • Prosthetics and Makeup - Those familiar with the myth of Prometheus know that at some point he must bid a fond farewell to a treasured organ, we think it's time to realise this as viscerally as possible.
  • Graphics - From the posters that line the back alleys of our streets to the programmes we hope to provide, the graphics of our world will need their due care to be brought to life.
