We are the final year Art students at the University of Reading. We are a committed group of artists who are working incredibly hard to complete our degrees despite the uncertainty and confusion caused by Covid-19.
There is no doubt that this global pandemic has had a detrimental impact on all students and their University experience. However, we are all continuing to develop our artistic practices, keeping our upcoming Degree Show, Pièce de Distance at the forefront of our minds. The Degree Show is scheduled to take place on the 4th June 2021 and is the motivation of all final year students in the Art Department. It represents who we have developed into as artists over the past four years of study and showcases our most established works to date. And we need you to help make this happen.
We are currently aiming for a blended Degree Show, balancing a showcase of work both in the department and online. Despite this posing significant challenges, we are hoping to complete both aspects of the Degree Show as professionally and successfully as possible. Not only will this entail significant time and work, it will also require extra funds to ensure this plan can succeed and we'll need all the help we can get.
As a year group we are dedicated to overcome the challenges that Covid-19 has faced us with to ensure a Degree Show that we can be proud of, but we need your help to do so. As a result of social distancing measures, so many of the usual, typical fundraisers that the Degree Show committee rely on to raise funds are not permitted. So, we are asking you to help us achieve our fundraising goal to ensure an unforgettable Degree Show despite the current restrictions.
Where will the money go?
All money donated will go towards helping our Degree Show dreams become a reality. We will provide regular updates on how we are utilising the money raised and plan on curating Interim exhibitions that will showcase all artists’ developing work.
The current known costs for our 2021 Degree Show are as follows;
£20 for a website domain where all work will be uploaded.
£600 will be divided and used to create two professional exhibitions, one online and one in the University of Reading’s Art Department.
£600 will be used to put on a successful exhibition opening in the Department. This will include refreshments, music, entertainment and will also contribute to all AV equipment required. If this exhibition is not permitted due to restrictions in June 2021, the money will be used to better the livestream exhibition and website for all Art students.
£1,500 will be used to create and print a professional publication of all artists’ work and advertising material that will encourage a wider audience.
As a result of the pandemic we understand our current plans may have to be adapted. This uncertainty is why it is so important for us to have sufficient funds that will enable us to succeed in our Degree Show no matter what restrictions we are faced with.
