Mozart wasn't a genius.....was he?!

the project

Wolfgang Theophilus Mozart will be a short film (circa. 10-15 minutes), whose aim is to push back against popular portrayals of Mozart as a deitical genius with divinely inspired powers of musicianship, by portraying an argument between two people about him. Drawing on comedic aspects, surrealism and anachronism, among other things, I hope to make a stark and interesting point through film, about Mozart and what he was really like!

Mozart was pretty cool. I'll give him that.

And he was pretty clever too. But does that make him any less human? Any less of a musician like you or me could be?

Watch the film to find out.....

Who am i?

My name is Chris. :) I'm a Masters student here at Reading studying creative enterprises, and this project is my final film for the course.

I'm also a musician! I've always loved playing and writing music, and have relatively recently developed a great love for Mozart and his music -- but an annoyance with those who revere him like a God! I hope you will find my film entertaining and insightful when it is finished.

I also hope soon to bring together a crack team of filmmakers, producers, camera folk and audiovisual extraordinaires! But they aren't here *quite* yet so that will come a bit later....

Where will the money go?

Although exact costs will vary depending on the funds we have available, the things to be purchased/hired go something like this:

  • The minimum we need are three regency-style wigs. For the characters not for fun!
  • All further money raised will go to improving the costume design. It's very important in certain parts of the film that the characters are in very complete regency-style dress. These costumes may be hired, or they may be bought (to allow for more flexibility both in time and in use).
  • Costume hire costs around £40-£50 per costume (of which three are needed).
  • Costume purchase costs more like £100-£200 per costume, but would provide much more flexibility with the filming schedule, so would be a lot nicer than hiring in many respects.

Help us succeed!

  • You don't have to give money yourself to help us succeed! Please share this project with anyone you think would support us – on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, by email, telephone, carrier pigeon or semaphore tower.
  • In fact, share it with everyone you know as we think it's a great idea, and the more people who know about it, the more likely we are to make this work out brilliantly.
  • And we know we said you don't need to give money to help us, but we'd love it if you did! Please sponsor us and help make this happen.
