A short summary of our project
After 16 years of service to the club our trusty compressor has finally entered retirement. We as a University club have pride in making scuba diving as cheap as possible and accessible for all our members. However, with our compressor broken, it has been a struggle to do this. We need your help to get a compressor, so that we can go diving again!!!
Why a new compressor is essential
A high-quality compressor is one of the most crucial pieces of equipment for our club. As divers, the quality of the air we breathe underwater is paramount to our safety. Impurities in breathing gas can have serious consequences at depth, which is why it is essential to have access to well-maintained, high-quality air. A new compressor will not only improve the safety of our divers but also ensure the safety of the operators handling the equipment on land.
Who are we?
Reading University BSAC established in 1972, has long been affiliated with the wider BSAC community, training up hundreds of students over the years, prioritising enjoyment, quality, safety and price. This allows our members to continue their diving once they have graduated, and our passionate committee is determined to maintain this level of quality. As a club we travel around the UK and beyond to find exciting dives and provide training for all our members. We currently have 30 active university members, and 15 Alumni members, all who have a passion for diving and want to ensure the long term success of the club.
Where will the money go?
- A new compressor costs around £12,000 so anything towards this will greatly help our cause.
- We are fundraising the money through different grants but have committed to raising £3,000 ourselves.
- If we don't reach our full target, our aim is to continue raising the rest of the money through alternate funding and hopefully end up with a new compressor ASAP!
- If we get more than our target amount it can go towards the shipping and fitting of the compressor which can cost close to £1,000.
- We will continue to show our appreciation for donations by carrying on with our trips and training, something which makes our club so fun.
- We will make sure to upload and share our trips via our Instagram account and YouTube clips.
- Breakdown of costs:
- New compressor - £12,000.
- Fixtures and fitting - £1,000.
- Estimated Filling costs while the compressor is out of action £6.50 X 100 + dives = £1,000.
