MAry's Ruse
We're trying to raise £500 to help us fund our second year of university short film 'Mary's Ruse'! Our film tells the story of Mary who capitalises on her good looks and personality to get back at men after being treated badly in the past, but is increasingly under pressure from her partner as her facade falls apart upon taking on her newest victim: her partner's best friend.
'Mary's Ruse' tells the story of a flawed young woman who is unable to fully understand herself and her desires, based off " 'Terror. My Friend's Story' from Eleven Stories" by Chekhov, we bring a new perspective and take on the story and its general premise.
During our studies from the theoretical part of our degree as well as from out general understanding and analyses of the media today, we've noticed that women's stories are often under-told, especially that of the 'anti-hero' / a morally grey character. We wanted to challenge this representational issue, and thus the idea for 'Mary's Ruse' was created.
We hope you see value in our project, too! By donating you'll be able to help us realise this project and help it reach its full potential!

Hi, I’m Katie and I am the Costume Designer for ‘Mary’s Ruse’. I am most looking forward to creating different costumes to convey a variety of messages and ideologies; then seeing the reaction of the audience. Having a creative role in the project is brilliant.
Izzy
Hey! I'm Izzy and I am the cinematographer for Mary's Ruse. I have always loved the creative elements of photography and film and am excited to explore those same elements in our short-fiction film. Cinematography is integral in the portrayal of the plot and storyline so I'm excited to get stuck in with the project. I also can't wait to work with our talented actors and hopefully create something that we are all proud of!
