A short summary
Following a successful knit-a-thon last year we will be raising money to knit hats for premature babies in intensive care units, as well as for the homeless in Reading and the surrounding areas via the charity Launchpad. We will be holding our 12-hour knitathon from 8am to 8pm on the 6th February 2019.
our story
We are the University of Reading Domestic DIY Society (RUDDIYS) and we are looking forward to hosting the knitathon for its second year to give back to our community.
Our talented crafters will be coming together along with anyone else with a passion for knitting for 12 hours to knit hats that we can donate to our chosen charities
The small hats for intensive care unit babies were some of the first knitted items made when the committee members were learning to knit and has been an ongoing project that we wished to spread awareness of. Hats of this size are required because babies born prematurely often have very limited clothing options as they are so tiny. The hats help to regulate the baby's temperature and keep them looking cosy.
Last year, the president of our committee slept rough for a night as part #sleepout2017 for the YMCA Burton. The experience inspired our connection with Launchpad and is something we would like to repeat this year to help keep the local homeless community warm this winter.

Where will the money go?
The money we raise will fund wool, knitting needles and postage & packaging to donate as many hats as we can to support our charities.
