Support University of Reading staff and students in their Half Marathon for Cara

Reading Half Marathon 2018

To help scholars from around the world escape from danger, staff and students from across the University will be running the Reading Half Marathon on Sunday 18 March 2018. The team are raising funds to support the vital work that the University of Reading is doing in partnership with Cara.

If you’d like to come and support the University on the day, the 13.1 mile route starts in Green Park, passes through the Whiteknights campus between miles four and five, and finishes at the Madejski Stadium.

University of Reading partnership with Cara

In partnership with the University of Reading, Cara offers persecuted and at-risk academics solidarity and support to work in safety with financial and practical help.

Cara helps them to connect with colleagues within the wider academic and scientific communities, enhancing skills and ending isolation, so that, when the moment comes, they are equipped to re-build their societies.

The University of Reading also work with Cara to enable workshops in Turkey on ‘English for Academic Purposes’ and ‘Academic Skills Development’ to lay the foundations for future research collaborations.

In 2018, almost all of the work the University of Reading is doing in partnership with Cara supports the Syrian academic community, and in the long-term will help rebuild that country.

Help us to succeed

By donating to the Reading team, you will enable the University to further develop its partnership with Cara and help even more at-risk scholars affected by humanitarian crises. Your contributions will help us to admit more scholars to the University and provide a safe environment for them to continue their studies and research. There are lots of scholars who are still waiting for help from Reading, and the need to support more fellowships is at a critical point.

We would be grateful if you could help us by promoting our cause on social media and talking to your peers. The more people who know about it, the more likely we are to help preserve the intellectual capacity of war-torn countries such as Iraq and Syria, and allow their people to hope for a brighter future that isn’t determined by war and unrest.

Rebuilding Syria through IMAGINE

IMAGINE is the University of Reading’s first international and volunteering campaign. The campaign aims to connect supporters of the University with areas where their gifts of time and money can make the biggest impact through the work of the University.

Our work with Syrian academics is vital, time specific and urgently needs your help. To find out more, please visit www.reading.ac.uk/imagine
