We're raising money to create an access fund for girls who would like to get into running.
Who are you?
Hit the Road girls run club is a newly established society at the university and we have over 100 members. We are a free society with the aim of making exercise accessible and sociable. We meet 3 times a week:
- Mondays we have our distance runs which increase in distance each term starting at 6km building up week on week.
- Wednesdays we have our 5km runs.
- Fridays we have our beginner run/ walks which are 3km.
We are supportive of everyone's goals and cheer everyone on over the finish line. We also host a range of socials, tailoring them to what our members would like to do ranging from film nights to pub crawls!
The society was set up to give girls a designated space to run together. Especially in the darker months we find that girls appreciate running with as part of a group. Some of our members are training for half marathons and enjoy the structure of our runs and others are complete beginners - everyone is welcome!
Where will the money go?
- The money will be spent on vouchers for sports shops to go towards the purchase of trainers for running for those who sign up. The aim is to break down barriers and get girls started on their running journey.
- We want to make the society as accessible as possible: we currently have beginners running sessions on a Friday for girls to build up their confidence and ability, before joining our longer runs if they wish.
- Being a part of an inclusive society also promotes friendships and provides a community of girls who support each other.
- Girls can apply though a form which will be attached to our Instagram.

Help us succeed!
- You don't need to give money to help us succeed! Please share this project with anyone you think would support us – on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn
- In fact, share it with everyone you know as we think it's a great idea, and the more people who know about it, the more girls we can help. And we know we said you don't need to give money to help us, but we'd love it if you did! Please sponsor us and help make this happen.
