A summary of our project
We are third-year students at the University of Reading's Film and Television department. We are passionate about bringing our ideas to life, and with your help, we can do that.
Our film follows Detective Wingate, assigned a case in which he was involved in as a child. His stake in the case brings up old childhood trauma he hasn't yet explored. The film is set as an 11-minute short psychological crime thriller. It is set in the 2000's and has a flashback sequence set in the 1980's.
Logline: When a new missing person case echoes the Red Room murders from 30 years ago, a young detective is forced to confront dark family secrets that threaten to unravel his life and bring him face-to-face with an obsessed private investigator on the verge of solving a case. Red Room explores the effects of childhood trauma on the human psyche. Our film offers a powerful narrative that will leave a lasting impression on the audience.
Who are we?
We are a passionate team of student filmmakers committed to bringing compelling and thought-provoking stories to the screen. Our vision is to create powerful narratives for the screen that develop into the human experience.

Our story
We are a group of students who have all bonded over our appreciation of cinema, especially Cinematography, Set design and narrative. We want to bring our appreciation of these aspects of the film to our film collaboratively.
As a group, we chose this topic as we are all very interested in how the human psyche is displayed in the film. As a group, we have made various short films exploring this; this project is an amalgamation of all of them and that theme of the human psyche.
Films that have influenced our project are Zodiac, Longlegs, The Black Phone and Mulholland Drive. We are also influenced by the realness of David Fincher's films, and we would like to contrast this with the Surreal Aspects of David Lynch's films to display trauma; the discussion of these films brought us together as a group in the first place.
Where will the money go?
Our budget will go towards:
- Locations: £500
- Transport: £250
- Set Design and Costumes: £250
- Tech: £300
- Catering: £100
- Emergencies: £100
If we raise any extra funds above our target, this money will be used by the University of Reading Film, Theatre and Television department to help promote our film and other films made by our fellow students.
